In case you haven’t noticed, the last few Monday Minutes have focused on the power of oral or written words. My childhood was not perfect, but one thing my parents did was positively speak to me and my siblings. Their encouraging phrases reassured me when uncertain and made me believe in myself.
As an adult, I can balance and counter the negative comments I receive. As I consult clients and mentees, I realize how people internalize words that are said to them, especially when pursuing their next career opportunity or overcoming a challenge at work.
How do you provide feedback? Are your words encouraging or discouraging? Do you think you’re giving constructive feedback that helps someone get better?
Let’s remember the power of our words and be mindful of how we speak to others. It’s important to reflect on our communication and use it wisely.
