
I wanted to highlight two of my mentees, 2 ladies blazing their trails in their own right. I see a part of me in both of them and I think that’s what makes these relationships flourish beyond our initial intent of mentorship.
For both Carla and Caeresa, I was their first manager out of college. I was just as excited to manage them as they were to have a Black female manager. Both majored in Engineering in undergrad and we later discussed the sense of excitement and relief when they realized I would be their manager. I only DREAMED of having a manager that looked like me, so I aspired to ensure they were properly challenged, coached and mentored. I wanted to see them succeed just as much as they did. Both are driven women in their own right, I just wanted to create the space to ensure that was not hindered. Although we have all moved on to different roles and companies, we stay connected and I am proud of the two of them…my mentees!!
It’s these types of relationships that inspire my company, Moore Of You. It’s the knowledge, tips and expertise that I want to share with a larger audience. I want women to experience that level of support that Carla, Caeresa and I feel. I didn’t manage them at the same time, so that perpetual building is what makes me bring “Moore” of me to support bringing “Moore Of You”.
