Did you know the month of June is set aside to bring awareness to Men’s Health?
This week in particular, June 14th through June 20th is International Men’s Health Week.
Men’s Health Week was started in the United States by the US Congress in 1994 to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.
Do you know that men are living approximately 5 years less than women? According to VerywellHealth, Black men live seven years less than men of other racial groups. Men are also less likely to seek healthcare than women.
Another interesting fact: Prostate Cancer Affects One in Nine Men.
Knowing this statistic, it’s highly important that we get our loved ones screened in order to take the necessary preventative care.
Consider some of these things to do in recognition of Men’s Health Week:
- Take a male loved one to the doctor or ask them about their latest appointment.
- Plan some fitness activities at lunch time or after work with coworkers, neighbors, family or friends
- Ask local churches and other faith-based organizations to talk about Men’s Health Month and to include information about it in their church communications (social media, emails, etc.)
On Friday, June 18th, I will Wear BLUE to raise awareness to remind men the importance of staying healthy.
If you do plan to wear blue, please post a picture on your social media platforms and include #wearblueformen and #MOYwearsblue.
Let me know how you plan to recognize Men’s Health Week. Leave a comment or send an email to info@mooreofyou.com.
