I had “full-circle moments” this past week, attending the 49th Annual Convention of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
While pursuing my Industrial Engineering degree at North Carolina State University, I joined NSBE and attended regional and national conferences.
As a professional, I was able to attend this year and recruit. A full-circle moment from being the student to being the professional reviewing resumes and advising college students and professionals pursuing their first or new job opportunity. I connected with college friends and mentors, further solidifying the full-circle moment.
I also brought my oldest son to his first convention, where I saw his amazement at being in a convention center with thousands of Black STEM students and professionals. I remember being inspired by their presence when I first attended, and now, to see him do the same is another full-circle moment.
His exposure to different engineering fields from a collegiate and professional aspect provides him with opportunities to explore before even setting foot on a college campus.
These full-circle moments inspire me to continue doing what I do through consulting, my full-time role, and my volunteerism.
How have you engaged in creating full-circle moments?
