“Show Them Who You Are”…I was reminded of this line in the first Black Panther and again by our pastor during his message on Sunday.
“Show Them Who You Are” can take on many meanings. For this Monday Minute, we are going to focus on the workplace.
You can say this to counter times of doubt or nervousness…show them who you are…the strong, intelligent, and skilled person.
I use similar phrases to persevere through many chapters of my life being the only Black, the only woman, or the only Black woman in rooms and on teams. I have an inner voice that tells me to show up and be me. It encourages me because I can reflect that I am my ancestors’ dreams, I deserve this moment, and in it, I have the strength of generations before me and support from my family and friends. As I get older, I have continued to increase my confidence in my uniqueness – my skin, personality, and style.
If you have doubts or struggle with confidence in work, here are three tips to step confident and show them who you are!
1. Reflect on your past acknowledgments
2. Rest on your support system
3. Remind yourself that you are not perfect (give yourself grace)
Stay encouraged and show them who you are!
