Moore Of You

Today’s Monday Minute highlights some ordinary items that you probably didn’t know were invented by a Black person.
Consider this your Black History lesson for the day. If you know some, then this is your friendly reminder.
  1. Clothes Dryer George T. Sampson. June 6, 1892)
  2. Door Knob (O. Dorsey. Dec 12, 1878)
  3. Elevator (Alexander Miles. Oct 11, 1867)
  4. Fire Extinguisher (TJ Marshall. Oct 26, 1872)
  5. Hair Brush (Lydia Newman. Nov 15 1898)
  6. Ironing Board (Sarah Boone. Dec 30,1887)

  11. Refrigerator (J. Standard. Jul 14, 1891)
  12. Traffic Light (Garrett Morgan. Nov 20, 1923)
Imagine going throughout a typical day without those items. Isn’t it amazing how Black people have contributed to the success of everyday tasks? Some of these inventions were only a few years after the abolishment of slavery with the 13th amendment in 1865. There are SO many more, but I kept it to twelve. Just do a simple Google search and you can find many more!
Let’s remember the contribution, be inspired and encouraged to continue to strive for excellence.
