Moore Of You

There have been contributions made by Black people throughout history. Not just in America but throughout the world. Unfortunately, through formal education, those contributions are not consistently taught. It’s not embedded in the curriculum.
I didn’t receive in-depth lessons in Black history until I went to college and pursued a minor in African American history (I didn’t finish the minor, but I digress). I grew up in a predominately Black neighborhood and with a great deal of pride in my heritage; however the formal teaching was not in my schools. We did however promote Black history and I was able to see positive representation of my race in multiple facets of my life.
I’m a believer of teaching these contributions throughout the school year and in ALL communities. Some people only learn about Black people through the poor representation of them in the news and social media…the portrayal of Black people in a dim light and a very jaded perspective.
