Moore Of You

MLK Day is a national holiday that remembers the impact and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I always love the slogan for Martin Luther King Jr Day, “make it a day on and not a day off ” because it should be celebrated as a national day of service.
COVID-19 restrictions and winter weather may make today difficult to physically travel to a place to do an act of service, but consider some of these ideas:
  1. Research and learn Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s teachings by listening to his speeches
  2. Make a monetary donation to a local charity
  3. Prepare notes of encouragement for those in need and mail or drop them off to a hospital or shelter
My family will honor today by watching and discussing the movie, Selma.
We will also make a monetary donation to local charities in our new area of Murfreesboro, TN.
My husband and I are proud donors to The National Museum of African American History and Culture. In honoring the legacy of Dr. King, the museum is hosting, “History Alive! Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: The Last Five Years”. It’s a free online event today, January 17th from 1p to 2p EST.
The event has “living history interpreter John W. McCaskill as he chronicles the last five years of King’s life and shares other stories of the individuals who fought to end racial segregation and discrimination in the United States.”

How do you plan to celebrate today and make it a day ON and not just a day OFF?
