Moore Of You

I was reminded over this holiday weekend the importance of rest. Burn out is a real thing.

Examine how you take the holidays to carve out time to rest and reflect. Think through how you use the time to recharge your batteries. Too often we take a day off from work as a time to work on the house or yard work. We shift from one place of work to another. I personally purpose myself to read, sleep in, or take a walk without music.  I do all of these to disconnect and refocus myself.

Taking moments of rest has the following 3 benefits:

  1. Refocusing
Look at what matters and remove or reprioritize the things that don’t elevate you or your goals. Review your personal and professional strategies to understand where you are now and any adjustments needed for the remainder of the year.
  2. Remembrance
Reflect on what has happened. You will be amazed at your accomplishments whether they are big or small. Doing this reflecting motivates you to push further and pursue even more. Also, remember it’s a holiday, so think through ways to honor the day as well as spend time with those that bring positive energy into your life.
  3. Recharging
Rest. Examine how you define rest and do it. Some people consider rest simply as sleeping. Others consider rest as taking a walk or meditating or spending quiet time alone. Whatever you define as rest, make time to do it. This allows you to truly recharge your batteries and come back to your regular work more energized.

If you have July 5th off work this year, let me know how you decide to rest and if you agree with the benefits listed of Refocusing, Remembering and Recharging.
