Some companies are doing “soft openings” by increasing the hybrid model of allowing employees to have the option to come into the office. There are other companies insisting vaccination and nonnegotiable return to office dates.
There is no ideal approach; however adding pressure can steer employees to seek permanent remote roles at other companies. Here are three suggestions for the return to office to be effective.
1. Consider employees with small children which require childcare. If they don’t have this available, they may not be able to return to the office. Aligning return to office with return to in-person learning for school and daycare centers is more manageable.
2. Returning to the office can increase anxiety for those who currently struggle with social anxiety and is now heightened in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Allow space and flexibility for those employees to slowly migrate back into the office.
3. This last one is for the employee…start practicing your regular routine for going into the office. Waking up at your normal time that includes your commute to start acclimating your internal clock to working in the office. Getting fully dressed also helps (smile).
