Moore Of You

Whether you are discouraged in your current role, want to advance or looking at other opportunities, maximize your time and development in your current role. Here are 3 steps to take in today’s Monday Minute…

Refer to the Job Description
Job descriptions are typically listed with the most important aspects of the role first. You should spend your time on excelling in those areas.
If you find that you can’t fulfill those items, those are your gaps. This applies to both your current and future/aspirational role.

Identify & Close the Gaps
Use the “gaps” to identify development opportunities.
Don’t get discouraged…you should go into a role with space to expand.
Try identifying solutions to close the gap. Consider on-the-job training.
People love to talk about their jobs and show you how they work, so don’t feel intimidated to shadow someone.
Formal training can also be a solution, online courses can easily be found and some are even free.
Reading books are also a way to close gap.
What ever approach you take, none of them are effective if you don’t apply the learning.

Create Checkpoints
Use a calendar to set dates to check on progress to closing your gaps. This will ensure you achieve goals.
There are studies that show that people who are effective at achieving goals are because they plan. Plan goals, plan development and keep yourself accountable.
If you want to take it another step further, identify an accountability partner. You can even consider putting these development plans as goals in your current work’s performance program.
