I watched Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker, the documentary of Debbie Allen’s career. It also follows her group of dance students as they prepare for Allen’s annual “Hot Chocolate Nutcracker.” I am not a dancer, but I appreciate the art. This documentary resonated with me, not just because of the art of dance, but the resilience Debbie Allen possesses and the skills she teaches that can transcend to any industry. She is quoted, not in the documentary of saying, “But out of limitations comes creativity”. Its apparent as she took her daughter’s perceived limitations at one dance school to create her own dance academy. Debbie Allen leveraged her creativity to establish a place where aspiring dancers can come regardless of body shape and social economic background to learn dance.
Where have you faced limitations and instead of stopping, you became creative? I leverage this quote in many aspects of my life. Moore of You, LLC was founded based on the limitations I have seen throughout Corporate America for women and especially women who look like me. Get creative…don’t limit yourself and don’t put society’s limits on you.
