Around this same time last year, I had the pleasure of having a full circle moment of exposing my oldest son to the National Society of Black Engineers National Convention. He was able to experience the energy and excitement of over 10,000 students and professionals aspiring to be or currently engineers.
This year, I was able to bring my youngest son and my husband. They were equally amazed at the number of attendees—over 17,000! There’s something about seeing yourself reflected and represented across from the interview table, career booth, or as a workshop leader. Seeing a sea of people who look like you striving and achieving in the STEM fields is inspiring.
Here are three things that made the 50th NSBE National Convention memorable:

Schneider Electric intentionally had thought-provoking discussions on energy equity with local business and community leaders. I also connected face-to-face with SE employees nationwide, including members of the Black Professional Employee Resource Network, SE executives, and old college friends and colleagues.

The ability to interview young talent, provide career advice, and identify potential talent to bring into the organization was one of the most rewarding ways to give back. I built critical business and technical skills as an active NSBE member, chapter officer, and regional officer.
I also participated in a community outreach project to provide STEM kits and books to two local Title 1 elementary schools in Atlanta.

Workshops provided soft and technical skills and exposure to different engineering disciplines and careers. My sons also attended workshops that provided skills and techniques for studying and achieving excellent grades.
Year after year, I look forward to the NSBE National Convention. 2024 did not disappoint…great talent, great time, and great memories
